Prior to joining Pinnacle, John has had a 25-year plus career with some of the leading players in the UK retail banking market. Over 20 years of this was spent at Nationwide, one of the world's leading mutual organisations.
During his career, John has focused on being the product, commercial and P&L owner for credit cards, personal loans, current account and payments. These roles have entailed being the product champion and creating win-win relationships with teams across the business to deliver strong commercial and customer outcomes. As such, John has detailed knowledge of across the value chain and experience of developing innovative and customer focused solutions to key business issues.
Most recently, he worked for a near-prime credit card business in the UK, where he was the business lead in renegotiating a successful outcome to their payment scheme incentive contract. Whilst at the Bank of Ireland he was part of the team which undertook a strategy review which ultimately led to the sale of the UK credit card business. At Nationwide he looked after the credit card, personal loan and current account products. Key success here include developing pricing, risk and product solutions which created a 20% year on year growth in personal loan lending and all-time high book size, leading the strategic response to the interchange rate reduction on credit cards and leading the launch of Nationwide’s first new current account products for 25 years.
John has also spent time with the UK’s leading price comparison business, comparethemarket.com, where he led the development of the credit cards and loans comparison vertical. This included developing and implementing cross-business enhancements and customer propositions improvements. This role has given John a detailed knowledge of the price comparison business in the UK.
